Pioneers Control Tempo in 77–46 Win Over Monrovia

By Nate Bingham | Jan 3, 2026 9:39 PM

The Mooresville Pioneers delivered a strong all-around performance Saturday night, defeating the Monrovia Bulldogs 77–46. Mooresville set the tone early, controlling the tempo from the opening tip and building a 37–23 lead by halftime behind balanced scoring and consistent defensive pressure. The Pioneers posted quarter scores of 19–18–22–18, while holding Monrovia to just 8 points in the opening period. After a brief slow start to the third quarter, Mooresville found its rhythm, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition to extend the lead and pull away. The Pioneers were efficient offensively, connecting on 20 two-point field goals, 10 three-pointers, and 7 free throws. Mooresville’s depth was on full display, with eight players scoring in the win. Silas Smith led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Keagan Burch with 17 and Chris Thompson-Moore with 12. Monrovia was led by two players in double figures, but struggled to keep pace as the Pioneers’ pressure and transition game took over. The Pioneers return to action Tuesday night when they host Bloomington North for a boys/girls doubleheader.
