Mooresville Girls Tennis Faces Tough Test Against Franklin

The Mooresville Pioneers girls tennis team faced a challenging matchup Thursday afternoon against a strong Franklin Community squad, resulting in a 5-0 loss for the varsity team. In singles play, Lyla Kaufman fell at #1 singles (1-6, 1-6), Hadley Miller lost at #2 singles (0-6, 0-6), and Adilynn Breedlove was defeated at #3 singles (0-6, 0-6). In doubles, the #1 team of Tori Shields and Grace Coon dropped their match (0-6, 0-6), while the #2 team of Jacey Bell and Emily Mettas fell (0-6, 0-6). The junior varsity squad also faced stiff competition, falling 8-3 overall. JV singles results included losses by Hailey Hoffman (1-6), Lydia Vanover (0-6), and Stephanie Esqueda (0-6). In doubles, Carissa Kennedy and Ava Krauss lost (2-6), Abbie Bolton and Brooklyn Rawlins fell (1-6), and Belle Johnson and Maddi Garrison were defeated (0-6). However, Brooke Mitchell and Katie Taylor notched a win (7-5), as did Bre Eavey and Brooklyn Rawlins (6-4). Abbie Bolton and Stephanie Esqueda lost a close match (4-6), and Hoffman and Vanover dropped their final pairing (1-6). With this match, the varsity team’s record moves to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The JV team now stands at 4-5-1, also 1-3 in the conference. The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Saturday, May 3rd, when they host the annual Mooresville Invitational. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with Mooresville taking on Martinsville, and Pike facing Southport. The winners will face off 30 minutes following the first round’s conclusion, while the losing teams will compete for third place. Despite the setbacks, the team remains focused on growth and resilience. Each match offers valuable experience, and the Pioneers are determined to continue improving and showcasing their talents as the season progresses.
