Mooresville Girls Tennis Falls to Covenant Christian

The Mooresville Pioneers girls tennis team hosted Covenant Christian on Monday afternoon, with the visitors coming away with a 4-1 victory at the varsity level and an 8-2 win in JV play. For the Pioneers varsity squad, Lyla Kaufman earned the lone win at No. 1 singles, defeating her opponent 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). At No. 2 singles, Hadley Miller fell 0-6, 1-6, while Hailey Hoffman lost 0-6, 0-6 at No. 3 singles. In doubles action, Ava Krauss and Grace Coon dropped their match at No. 1 doubles 2-6, 4-6, and the No. 2 team of Jacey Bell and Emily Mettas lost 2-6, 0-6. In JV action, singles players Brooklyn Rawlins (1-8), Evie Welker (0-8), and Amelia Lindsey-Turnmire (0-8) were defeated. In doubles, Abbie Bolton and Tori Shields split their two matches, falling 4-8 in the first but bouncing back with an 8-0 win. Lydia Vanover and Carissa Kennedy lost 2-8, Brooke Mitchell and Katie Taylor fell in a close 7-8 match, Belle Johnson and Bre Eavey lost 2-8, and Alexis Williams and Maddi Garrison also lost 2-8. In the final match, Lydia Vanover and Bre Eavey picked up a 6-3 victory. The varsity team’s record now stands at 8-7, while the JV drops to 4-6-1. The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, May 5, when they travel to Greenwood for a Mid-State Conference matchup scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
